School's out for summer, but our Abington Heights Athletic Department is hard at work to prepare for our upcoming 2024-2025 sports seasons. In the meantime, there was just too much info to share before the next school year begins, so we decided to create a “Special Edition” of our publication, COMETS WEEKLY and so we bring to you, COMETS MONTHLY / SUMMER 2024 EDITION !This special issue is jam packed with highlights of the 2023-2024 sports seasons including several accolades and achievements of our exceptional student-athletes. Spring 2024 Summary: Abington Heights Athletics The 2024 Spring season at Abington Heights was another example of how incredibly talented our Comets Athletes are in all sports! We’d like to recap this amazing season and all the accomplishments our teams have achieved: Baseball 11-3 league, 18-4 overall The Comets finished 11-3 in league play to capture its fifth Lackawanna League Division I title during the regular season. AH earned the #2-seed in the District II/IV Class AAAAA Subregional tournament, winning the quarterfinal 3-1 on Tuesday, May 21st, against #7-seeded Crestwood. The Comets lost on Friday, May 24th, in the semifinals to #3-seeded Pittston Area, 10-0 in 5 innings. AH concludes 18-4 overall with an 0.818 win %. Jake Lenahan had his 100th career strikeout in the Comets’ game at PNC Field. Boys Lacrosse9-3 league, 14-6 overall The Comets posted their best season yet, finishing 9-3 in WVC play and fourth place in the conference standings. AH ea

The Abington Heights School District has partnered with Power Ad Company to feature Industry Exclusive Sponsor Ads on their brand new Watchfire LED Video Boards in the High School Gym. Now businesses and organizations throughout the community will have the opportunity to partner with the district through digital advertising and sponsorships. Funds raised through these partnerships will support students and programs within the district.Over the past few months, Power Ad conducted a campaign to secure Peoples Security Bank &Trust, and Dickson City Hyundai as the two Exclusive Title Sponsors for the 6’ x 10’ Video Boards. Each business has agreed to a three-year contract term. Once Title Sponsors were secured, they began securing Platinum Sponsors featuring advertising Sponsors on static signage below the new Video Boards and additional rotating LED video ads.“We are incredibly grateful to Peoples Security Bank & Trust, and Dickson City Hyundai for their commitment to the success

Abington Heights legendary boys basketball coach, Ken Bianchi has announced his retirement after a 49-year career, 28 of those seasons as the Head Coach of the Comets. His former player and 42-year assistant coach, Jeff McLane, is also stepping down and they walk away as one of the most successful coaching duos in high school basketball history.Throughout those storied 28 seasons leading the Comets, Coach Bianchi has amassed 613 wins against 145 losses, a .809 win percentage! Included in that record are 30 Championships between League, District and also a PIAA 5A State Championship in 2018. During the duration of time on the AH sidelines, he was assisted by his former player, and 42-year Assistant Coach, Jeff McLane. Before Bianchi and McLane arrived at AH, the Comets Boys Basketball program had a 2-6 record in State Playoffs. Fall 2023 Summary - Abington Heights Athletics It has certainly been an exciting Fall 2023 season here at Abington Heights! We’d like to recap this amazing season and all the accomplishments our teams have achieved: Fall 2023 record: Boys Cross Country finished 17-6, with Sean Rooney earning a medal and securing 4th place out of 8 teams in Class 3A. Girls Cross Country completed their second straight undefeated season in league competition at 23-0, while also repeating as league and district champions. Emma Horsley claimed the individual championship in District 2 Class 3A. All our girls, including Emma Horsley, Anna Pucilowski, Reese Morgan, Morgan Kresge, Hailey Hirtz, Marley Gilboy, and Kiera Crowell, qualified for the state race. The girls impressively secured second place in Class 3A at the state meet, accumulating 127 team points. The runner-up trophy is now proudly displayed in the front trophy case at AHHS. Haile

More About Reminders for 2023-2024 Winter Sports Athletes/FamiliesBoys & Girls Soccer District Championship Spectator Guidelines
At Abington Heights High School we aim to present the best gameday experience possible for fans of all ages. In order to do so, we request your cooperation to ensure everyone is comfortable, respectful, and safe throughout our events. Below are some important guidelines for anyone attending our games but especially at our District Championship Events on Friday, November 3rd @ 7PM (Boys Soccer Championship) and on Saturday, November 4th @ 6PM (Girls Soccer Championship). Ticket Gates will not open until 1 hour prior to the start of competition each night. Gate will open on Friday at 6PM and on Saturday at 5PM. If anyone is seated in the bleachers prior to our attendants scanning tickets, you will be asked to leave the stadium and re-enter to have your tickets scanned at the appropriate time.
