HONORING LEGACY
On February 7th, Abington Heights Athletics took a moment to honor the long and illustrious careers of Coaches Ken Bianchi and Jeff McLane during the boys basketball game.
Throughout his 49-year career, Coach Ken Bianchi has partnered with Coach McLane first as a player and then for 42 years as an assistant coach. Together over the past 28 years here at Abington Heights, this storied duo amassed 613 wins against 145 losses - a .809 winning percentage! Their partnership will go down as one of the most successful coaching duos in High School basketball history and on Friday, February 7th at our home Boys Basketball Game vs. Scranton Prep, we took some time to pay tribute to our former coaches who have given so much of themselves and so much to our Abington Heights Community!
Since 1996 they have amassed 15 League titles, 14 District 2 Titles and the 2018 PIAA 5A-State Championship. Their tenure leading the Comets ended with a perfect 22-0 regular season record and their final 26-1 record earned the team the honor of being the #13 Boys Varsity Program in all of Pennsylvania. This stellar season performance earned Coach Bianchi the distinction of being named the Class 5A Pennsylvania Sportswriters’ Coach of the Year.
Thank you to the many individuals who helped us honor these men for their service and commitment to High School Sports! Please check out the video tributes below of both the scenes from the celebration as well as the personal messages from Coaches and Players who have been impacted by these two great men:
In this Months edition of Comets Monthly we dedicated a section to both of our legendary coaches.
Additionally, we compiled some links for our fans to view, commemorating the long-time service, dedication and success of these two legendary coaches:
